PRIVAT LIVEMONT (1861-1936) HELM CACAO. 1900.
28 1/2x12 inches, 71x30 1/2 cm. Van Leer, Amsterdam.
Condition B+: minor tears, creases and soiling at edges; abrasions in margins and image; pencil notation in lower left corner; mounted on card.
This serene image may rank as one of the most tender of all the charming images Livemont designed. It depicts the intimate scene of a mother spoon-feeding cocoa to her baby. Characteristic of all Livemont's works are the white outlining surrounding the figures and the sophisticated Art Nouveau treatment and ornamentation. His styling can be seen in the wafting steam, details of the woman's clothes, the flowers, the impressive piece of furniture in the background and even in her cup. Uncharacteristic of Livemont's work is the bold and eye-catching use of red. This is the smaller format. DFP-II 1068, Privat Livemont 27.
