One of 15 portfolios in a series entitled "L'Art International d'Aujour d'Hui" [International Art of Today], published by Charles Moreau. The series, encompassing such topics as architecture, furniture, gardens, carpets, metal sculpture, interior design and more is a cornerstone of design in the Art Deco Era. Each portfolio was edited by an expert in the specific field being touted. so Moreau employed Mallet-Stevens to write about architecture, Pierre Legrain for Objets d'Art and Sonia Delaunay for textiles. For this portfolio, number 12, on advertising and graphic design it is no surprise that Moreau turned to Cassandre, the leader of the new generation of French graphic designers. As editor, Cassandre chose to illustrate a mixture of 49 posters, book covers, shop windows and other graphic projects in black and white with 6 color plates. His choice reflects his lack of nationalism (only 11 French entries) as well as his modesty (only 2 are posters of his own design). His selection also proves that he was acutely aware of modernist, avant-garde design around the world, as he presents such luminaries as Binder, Zwart, Teige, Tschichold, Moholy-Nagy, McKnight Kauffer and others.with Three highly designed prospectuses for the 15 album series.
