Additional Details

"Maria Bianca is furious with you--she has told me to make peace with you, and has stopped sulking now. On Monday, if the weather is fine, I am going by car with Magrini . . . . [A]nd then I shall see whether they are going to take me to see you. Today 2 woodcocks, and yesterday 10 snipes in the goat house. I am joking, you know, about Maria Bianca--she is good and quiet, expects me to praise her. . . ."
Puccini (jokingly?) addresses Bettolacci as "Flamingo" ("Fenicottero").
