First edition, octavo, with an introductory sonnet by Cervantes, one of his earliest appearances in print; illustrated with full-page woodcut incorporating the arms of Margaret of Austria (also used on the title page) and a woodcut of the Virgin Mary; bound in full 19th century polished calf with gilt-tooled emblem on front board showing Gabriel appearing before Mary with the words he spoke on a draping banner, "Ave Gratia Plena Dominus Tecum" and the initials A.M. at the foot; ex libris F. Fasting, with bookplate, E.M. Dring collation note at back; purchased from Quartich in 1984; nicely preserved, with final colophon leaf; some sidenotes cropped slightly, 5 5/8 x 4 in.
