Palmer was a well-known Chicago artist who also maintained a studio in Provincetown. She studied in Paris and exhibited at the Salons as early as 1903. During her lifetime, her work was acquired by several notable public and private collections, including the National Academy, New York, and her alma mater, the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1918, she was unanimously elected president of the Chicago Society of Artists, the first woman to hold this position. She also served as president of the Art Institute Alumni Association, and the Chicago Association of Painters and Sculptors. She died unexpectedly of pneumonia while traveling in Norway.
