Puig, Manuel (1932-1990)
Kiss of the Spider Woman, Signed First Edition.

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1979.

First American edition, octavo, signed by Puig in blue ink on half title, octavo, translated from Spanish by Thomas Colchie; original black cloth backed tan boards, top edge stained red, others uncut; original pictorial dust jacket; a few tiny nicks at head and one or two small stains to lower panel; 8 3/8 x 5 1/2 in.

Puig's novel is the source for the popular 1985 film of the same title starring William Hurt, Raul Julia and Sônia Braga. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, with Hurt winning Best Actor at the Oscars and at the 1985 Cannes Film Festival. The first Spanish edition was banned in Argentina, resulting in the present American edition garnering a more widespread publication and audience.
