R. LATASTER FOIRE DE BORDEAUX. 1928.
56x38 1/2 inches. Delteil Fils Frères, Bordeaux.
Condition B+: restoration along vertical and horizontal folds; repaired tear in bottom left margin; creases in image.
A powerful Art Deco image promoting an International and Colonial Exhibition in Bordeaux, featuring the heads of different ethnic nationals residing within the French Empire in the stylized smoke wafting from the funnels of a black and red liner. Behind the ship yellow rays of sunshine are emanating from the orange silhouette of Bordeaux's skyline, including the Rostrale columns, and a suspension bridge. On June 21, 1940, the Massilia took 29 French Deputies and one senator over to Africa, as the French Government went into exile during World War II.
