Folio, 321x222 mm, contemporary calf with gilt arabesque centerpiece on covers, expertly rebacked retaining original backstrip; occasional dampwrinkling and soiling, mostly marginal dampstaining, blank corner off 4C2 and 6D4, left and upper margins trimmed near rule border on map of Sicily and first battle plan, portion torn off final blank. Contemporary purchase inscription, signature of Peter Middleton, and transcription of 2 poems by Raleigh ("Even such is time that takes in trust" and "What is our lyfe? ytt is a Play of passion") on verso of initial leaf, scattered marginalia in the text, and signatures of Peter and Margaret Middleton on the final blank.
