RALPH ALBERT BLAKELOCK
Wooded Landscape.

Pencil on cream wove paper, circa 1917. 195x140 mm; 73/4x51/2 inches. Initialed in pencil, lower left recto. Drawn on the verso of a typed letter signed by Mrs. Van Rensselaer Adams, 26 Liberty Street, New York, June 27, 1917.

Beatrice Van Rensselaer Adams is portrayed in the recent biography of Blakelock as a calculating and manipulative manager of the artist's affairs after he was committed to an asylum near Middletown, New York, in 1899 (see Glyn Vincent, The Unknown Night, 2003).
