Silver contact prints, the first image measuring 4 3/4x3 1/2 inches (12x8.9 cm.), the second 4 3/4x3 3/4 inches (12x9.5 cm.), the sheets slightly larger, the third 7x9 1/4 inches (18x23.5 cm.), each with Steiner's signature and negative and print dates in pencil on verso; the second image (the largest) wrapped with a note written and signed by Steiner. 1922, 1921, 1977; printed 1980
The present owners acquired these photographs directly from Ralph Steiner after working with him in 1977 to create printed pieces for the portfolio Ten Photographs from the Twenties and Thirties & One From the Seventies. There were two sheets included in each portfolio: a biography by Williard Van Dyke and descriptions of each of the 11 photographs.
