Several deletions, additions and corrections in Hector Bolitho's hand. Originally titled "Thumbs," Rattigan's play was produced in New York in 1940, based on Bolitho's 1929 novel Judith Silver. Additional Details

with-Typed Letter signed ("Dear John,"), dated June 8, 1975, by Bolitho's one-time companion Derek Peel describing the present typescript in an attempt at dispersal of same. Peel provides a brief history of the genesis of the play, and mentions the necessity of maintaining discretion regarding the personal life of the two writers: "Of course, that early relationship between Hector and Rattigan would have to be kept confidential, at least whilst Rattigan is still alive."
