Additional Details

From the artist; to musician Dickie Landry; to the present owner.
Dickie Landry, a Louisiana saxophonist, painter, composer, producer and photographer, was a member of the Philip Glass Ensemble. He also worked with Gordon Matta-Clark and Robert Rauschenberg (who was a performer and composer), among other artistic notables. Landry was drawn to jazz and classical music but also enjoyed painting. When he saw fellow southerner Rauschenberg's sculptural combine entitled "Bed," in 1956, he remarked, "That cut all ties to anything. If he [Rauchenberg] could paint his bed and hang it in an exhibition, I was free to do whatever I wanted to do." During the 1980s Landry toured the world with the artist as part of his Rauschenberg Overseas Cultural Initiative.
