RAUSCHENBERG, ROBERT. XXXIV Drawings for Dante's Inferno. Introduction by Dore Ashton. Folio, 17 1/4 x 17 1/2 inches; 440 x 445 mm, bound in polished black calf, front and rear covers with pictorial inset mounted beneath semi-translucent plastic overlay, spine titles gilt with two small morocco inlays; gold foil patterned endpapers; housed in pictorial cloth folding case. With 34 colored plates tipped in, and the original lithograph ("Prize") on Arches paper printed by Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE blindstamp) laid down to preliminary blank. Number 5 of 43 copies with the original lithograph "Prize" numbered and signed by the artist with this copy number 262 from a total edition of 300 copies. Additionally boldly signed by Rauschenberg on the colophon. The edition was issued with one of seven different lithographs (in editions of 42, 43, or 44), with most of these produced using printed wrappers with the color facsimiles mounted in a numbered sleeve and the original print laid in loose unlike here; the present format not described among the small handful of copies traced at Rare Book Hub and ABPC.
