RAYMOND EASTWOOD
Dunes at Cape Cod.

Oil on canvas, 1933. 615x765 mm; 24x30 inches. Signed and dated in oil, lower right recto. Ex-collection Janet Marqusee Fine Arts, Ltd., New York, with the labels on the frame back; and private collection, Pennsylvania.

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Eastwood (1898-1987) studied at the Art Students League, New York, and worked briefly as a theatre scene painter. He first visited Provincetown, Cape Cod, in the early 1920s, following a further year of studies at Yale University. Though he moved to Kansas in 1922 to become a professor of art (at the Univeristy of Kansas) and remained there for the rest of his career, he returned to Provincetown frequently to visit and depicted the scenery of the Cape often in his many decades as an artist.
