RAYMOND SAVIGNAC LA SOLEIL EST DÉJÀ LÀ / HERMES.
68 1/4x46 1/2 inches. Editions Hermes, Paris.
Condition A-: minor tears at edges. Paper.
Raymond Sauvignac was one of the most successful and influential poster designers of the post-war period and the inventor of the "visual gag" concept of advertising. By the 1990s he had achieved recognition as the modern father of the French poster and began to have retrospective exhibitions around the world as well as receiving prestigious commissions like this one. For this exhibition, "The Sun is Already Here," in the famous Hermes headquarters on the Fauborg St. Honore, he uses his false childish style to depict a half sun / half horse. The rich, voluptuous printing and sharp colors of this image were in keeping with the quality of Hermes' products, and it was printed in a small run on high-quality paper. Most of the posters were posted on the Parisian kiosks reserved for cultural advertising. This large format is extremely rare. At the Bibliotheque Forney Sauvignac retrospective, they only had the small format, offset version of the poster. Savignac 227 (var).
