In the late 1950's, in addition to being an accomplished painter, sculptor and printmaker, Groom's was also the creator of large-scale, multi-media constructions. He collaborated on set designs with other artist's such as Alex Katz and Roy Lichtenstein, for poet and playwright, Kenneth Koch. Grooms also directed the film "Tappy Toes" where he combined painted animation with live-action dance routines.
