REGINALD EDWARD HIGGINS (1877-1933) FILEY - FOR THE FAMILY. 1925. 39 1/2x24 1/2 inches, 100 1/4x62 1/4 cm. Vincent Brooks, Day & Son, Ltd., London. Condition B+ / A-: minor creases, abrasions and restoration along vertical and horizontal folds and in margins and image; minor repaired tears at edges. Higgins, who "studied at the St. John's Wood Art School and the Royal Academy Schools . . . was a portrait and decorative painter who designed posters for the LNER" (Railway p. 156). The artist only designed a handful of posters for the railroad. Here, in a visual snippet worthy of Brideshead Revisited, Higgins' exceptional Art Deco style perfectly captures the essence of a trendy British family at the beach. Furness vol. 2, p. 120.
