REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
A Beggar with a Crippled Hand Leaning on a Stick.

Etching, circa 1630. 90x42 mm; 3 5/8x1 5/8 inches, thread margins. Biörklund's fourth state (of 5); Usticke's fifth state (of 6); White and Boon's fourth state (of 5). Ex-collection the Albertina, Vienna, ink stamp verso (see Lugt supplement 5d). A superb dark impression of this exceedingly scarce, early etching, with the wiping scratches visible in the background and with partially inky plate edges.

According to Usticke, "An unobtainable rarity" (O-). This is the only impression we have found at auction in the past 30 years; sold at Swann, May 1, 2002, sale 1934, lot 57. Bartsch 166; Biörklund 30-15; Hollstein (White and Boon) 166.
