REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
A Polander Leaning on a Stick.

Etching and drypoint, circa 1632. 82x43 mm; 3 1/4x1 3/4 inches, narrow margins. Biörklund's fifth state (of 5); Usticke's sixth state (of 6); White and Boon's sixth state (of 6). Ex-collection Viscount Fitzharris, pencil inscription verso (not in Lugt); and G. W. Nowell-Usticke, his sale Sotheby's, New York, May 1, 1968. A superb, richly-inked impression of this very scarce etching, with burr in the foliage at the left and inky plate edges.

According to Usticke, "An extremely rare plate" (RRRR-). We have found only 7 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. Bartsch 141; Biörklund 32-5; Hollstein (White and Boon) 141.
