REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
Abraham's Sacrifice.

Etching and drypoint, 1655. 158x133 mm; 6 1/4x5 1/4 inches, thread margins. Usticke's only state (e), with traces of burr on Abraham's beard, on the tie around Abraham's waist, on the cloth at the left edge of the plate and to the left and below the platter, with the delicate horizontal wiping scratches in the sky, consistent with the earliest impressions of this print. The top of a Strasburg Lily (?) watermark (Ash/Fletcher 36). A brilliant, early impression. Bartsch 35; Biörklund 55-B; Hollstein (White and Boon) 35.
