REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
Grotesque Profile: Man in a High Cap.

Etching, circa 1631. 39x25 mm; 1 1/2x1 inches, small margins. Biörklund's third state (of 4); Usticke's third state (of 5); White and Boon's third state (of 4). Ex-collection unknown collector, indiscernible ink stamp verso. A superb, richly-inked and dark impression of this extremely scarce etching, with plate tone and partially inky plate edges.

We have found only 6 other impressions at auction in the past 20 years. According to Usticke, "A very scarce, tiny grotesque head, top arched." Bartsch 326; Biörklund 31-14; Hollstein (White and Boon) 283263.
