Head of an Old Woman.

Etching, circa 1630s. 40x45 mm; 1 5/8x1 3/4 inches. A superb, dark and richly-inked impression of the only state, with strong contrasts and no sign of wear. Ex-collection P & D Colnaghi & Co., London, with their stock number "a 66806" in pencil, verso; the Albertina, Vienna (Lugt 5g, verso); and Lessing J. Rosenwald (Lugt 1760b, verso).

We have not found another impression at auction in the past 25 years. Usticke notes only 10 known impressions in public collections.

With--The Artist's Mother Seated, in Widow's Dress and Black Gloves, etching and drypoint, circa 1632. 152x120mm; 6x4 3/4 inches, thread margins. Usticke's first state (of 3), with the "thumb" upper left distinct. Ex-collection Dr. W. Schumacher, ink stamp verso (not in Lugt). A superb, richly-inked and early impression.
