REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
Landscape with a Cow.

Etching, circa 1650. 103x131 mm; 4 1/8x5 1/4 inches, small margins. Biörklund's second state (of 3), before the additional work on the building at the right; Usticke's second state (l) (of 6), with the delicate, curved horizontal scratch in the sky above the building; White and Boon's second state (of 2); New Hollstein second state (of 5). Ex-collection Earl of Aylesford (Lugt 58, verso) and George Biörklund, author of the catalogue raisonné of Rembrandts etchings (Lugt 1138c, verso). A very good, crisp, evenly-printed impression with strong contrasts and all the details distinct, including the lightly-etched distant landscape formations. Bartsch 237; Biörklund 50-1; Hollstein (White and Boon) 237.
