REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
Man at a Desk Wearing a Cross and a Chain.

Etching and drypoint on tissue-thin Japan paper, 1641. 155x104 mm; 6 1/8x4 1/8 inches. Biörklund's fourth state (of 4); Usticke's second state (of 3), with the irregularities in the upper margin filled in but still showing and with the slipped strokes in the lower margin burnished out thus removing part of the "f" in the signature; White and Boon's fourth state (of 4). With thread margins or trimmed on the plate mark, small loss in the blank lower right corner. A superb, evenly-printed and dark impression of this scarce print, with traces of burr. Bartsch 261; Biörklund 41-L; Hollstein (White and Boon) 261.
