REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
Self Portrait in a Fur Cap: Bust.

Etching, 1630. 60x52 mm; 2 3/8x2 1/8 inches, thread margins. Biörklund's fourth state (of 4); Usticke's fifth state (of 5); White and Boon's fourth state (of 4). Ex-collection Karl Prince de Paar (Lugt 2009, verso); and initials EAT with a leaf ink stamp verso (not in Lugt). A superb, dark, richly-inked impression of this extremely scarce, early etching, with strong contrasts and little to no sign of wear.

We have found fewer than 20 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. According to Usticke, "A rare, lightly bitten portrait." Bartsch 24; Biörklund 30-L; Hollstein (White and Boon) 24.
