REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
Self Portrait with Curly Hair and White Collar: Bust.

Etching, circa 1630. 58x50 mm; 2 3/8x1 7/8 inches. Usticke's only state (e). With thread margins or trimmed on the plate mark. A good, strong impression of this usually grayish print, well-inked overall with partially inky plate edges and with very little to no wear in the most densely cross-hatched shading. Ex-collection Nathaniel Smith, with his initials and inscribed "No. 2" in brown ink (Lugt 1988, verso).

According to Usticke, "A very rare, attractive self portrait; nearly always pale and indistinct (RRR+)." We have found fewer than 10 impressions at auction in the past 25 years. Bartsch 1; Biörklund 30-11; Hollstein (White and Boon) 1.
