REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
Self Portrait with Saskia.

Etching, 1636. 105x94 mm; 4 1/8x3 3/4 inches, narrow margins. Biörklund's second state (of 3); Usticke's second state (i) (of 6), with the acid-spot to the right of Rembrandt's head visible and with the horizontal scratch across Saskia's chest and the vertical scratch through Rembrandt's hand; White and Boon's second state (of 3). Ex-collection unknown Heidelberg collector, ink stamp verso (not in Lugt). A very good, dark and evenly-printed impression with strong contrasts and with little to no signs of wear in the most densely cross-hatched areas.
