REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
Sheet of Studies, with a Woman Lying Ill in Bed, Etc.

Etching and drypoint, circa 1641-42. 138x152 mm; 5 1/2x6 inches, narrow to thread margins. Usticke's only state (e), with the 2 figures lower left very distinct, crisp, partially inky plate edges and the delicate horizontal scratches consistent with the earliest impressions of this subject. Strasburg Lily watermark (Hinterding ZZ.zz; the identical watermark is on the impression of this subject in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg). Ex-collection Arie Johannes Lamme (Lugt 138, verso). A superb, well-inked, crisp impression of this extremely scarce etching.

We have found only 13 other impressions at auction in the past 25 years. Bartsch 369; Biörklund 38-2; Hollstein (White and Boon) 369.
