Etching and drypoint, circa 1642. 62x51 mm; 2 1/2x2 inches, narrow to thread margins. An even and delicately-printed impression of this extremely scarce etching.
The sitter is purportedly the artist's wife, Saskia, who died at the age of 30 in 1642.
According to Usticke, "An extremely rare, delicate study" (RRR+). We have found only 11 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years. Bartsch 359; Biörklund 42-4; Hollstein (White and Boon) 359.
