REMBRANDT VAN RIJN
The Artist's Mother Seated at a Table Looking Right.

Etching and drypoint, circa 1631. 148x131 mm; 5 3/4x5 1/4 inches, narrow margins. Biörklund's second state (of 3); Usticke's second state (of 3); White and Boon's second state (of 3), before the plate was cut down and with the nose reworked but still printing with characteristics of the first state. An initials countermark, probably to a Foolscap with five-pointed collar watermark. A superb, well-inked impression with very strong contrasts and all the fine lines distinct and touches of burr on the face.

Provenance: Claude-Augustin Mariette, Paris (Lugt 1786, verso); D.G. de Arozarena, South America, Paris and Cuba (Lugt 109, verso).

Bartsch 343; Biörklund 31-8; Hollstein (White and Boon) 343.
