"Well that is hard luck losing that baby - all you children are so rugged - Remember us to Mrs B. and say we fell [?] with her. I am going away for a week. Dr. has said I must. How is the weather up north in Adirondacks. Do you want to go with me? Get me a model of that stretcher - that's all. What do I care of a little [unclear word]? Medico says nay - I know that stretcher is all right. Put it before the State Board. I will come up at the hearing if you say so. Much oblige about tax collector. Who the hell did you suppose I would write to - the dog catcher? . . . You must see my new studies next time you come down. P.S. Make so I go Adirondacks sketching. Will you go up with me for a week. Trout fish &c Wales will go I guess - Is the season too advanced or is it sunning [?] Answer immediately."
