René Péan was a student and close follower of Chéret. They worked together at the Chaix printing firm and many of Péan's early posters bear a striking resemblance to Chéret's work in drawing style, coloring and even lettering. Péan created posters for varied clients, ranging from cabaret and theater to tourism and department stores. He designed a number of posters for travel from Paris to London which incorporated both the French Railway and the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway.
