The Eye of Love (Das Auge der Liebe) is a tender photo-essay composed of 25 images taken during the photographer's honeymoon in 1952. The artist's intention wasn't to document the love for his wife, but rather to create a work of timeless poetry.

Edward Steichen, then curator at the MoMA, discovered Groebli's work during a visit to Zurich in 1953. He acquired the Seated Nude from The Eye of Love photographic series for the collection of the MoMA and invited Groebli to participate in the exhibition The Family of Man in 1955.
