Additional Details

Dukas originally scored La Péri, his last work, in 1911, for the Ballet Russes, with costumes by Léon Bakst and featuring dancers Natalia Trouhanova as Peri and Nijinsky as Iskender. The production was canceled when Serge Diaghilev deemed Trouhanova too weak of a dancer against Nijinsky. Undeterred, she commissioned Ivan Clustine to choreograph the music and Piot to design sets and costumes for this production, where she danced the title role against Bekefi as Iskender.
