RENÉE SINTENIS
Ausschlagendes Fohlen.

Bronze, 1923. 110x130 mm; 4 1/2x5 1/4 inches (excluding marble base). Incised with the artist's initials on the outside of the rear right hoof and numbered "19" on the horse's lower underside.

Provenance: Private collection, Chicago.

Published: Buhlmann, Renée Sintenis: Werkmonographie der Skulpturen, Darmstadt, 1987, number 132 (another cast illustrated); Georg Kolbe Museum, Renée Sintenis: Das plastische Werk, Berlin, 2013, number 58 (another cast illustrated).

According to Ursel Berger, co-author of the most recent Sintenis catalgue raisonné, there are often slight variations among the castings of a single model among Sintenis's bronzes, as the foundry used a lost-wax method and the soft wax could bend easily, particularly in the narrow, most delicate areas.
