Additional Details

a stunning copy of the first edition of repton's desirable and scarce first work. Repton became England's preeminent landscape designer in the 18th century following the death of Capability Brown and was a pioneer of the cottage style and the Picturesque movement. The images in Sketches and Hints comprise views and descriptions of sixteenth century country estates whose grounds Repton re-designed. Each image was included to demonstrate a particular principle outlined in the featured chapter. The movable overslips are to be lifted to display Repton's improvements. Abbey Scenery, 388; Tooley 400; RIBA III, 405.
