Flier protesting the filming of the movie "Cruising."
Photocopied flier. 280x220 mm; 11x8 1/2 inches, folds, light wrinkling, 5 pieces of cello tape. Circa August 1979

Additional Details

The film Cruising, starring Al Pacino as a policeman working undercover to track a serial killer in New York's leather scene, was filmed largely on location in Greenwich Village. The filming was met with demonstrations by the city's gay community, objecting to their characterization as steeped in violence. Many of the film's outdoor scenes needed to be overdubbed because of the noise from protesters. Offered here is a flier which had evidently been taped to a neighborhood utility pole near the end of the shoot: "It's not over! Cruising will be filmed tonight at 14th and 9th Ave., just below our NYC MCC! Demonstrate, 7:30 p.m., Sheridan Sq." Credit was taken by the Responsive Gay Collective and "The Marshals."
