RICHARD FELTON OUTCAULT (1863-1928) BUSTER BROWN'S OPINION OF THE BURR MCINTOSH MONTHLY. Circa 1903.
14x7 1/4 inches, 35 1/2x18 1/2 cm.
Condition A-: minor creases and abrasions in margins. Printed on card.
Outcault, who brought the world Hogan's Alley and The Yellow Kid, also created Buster Brown, who first appeared in 1902. Outcault is considered the father of the modern comic strip. The Burr McIntosh Monthly published between 1903 and 1910. The magazine was bound with a ribbon run through holes in each page so that readers could conveniently remove pages and hang them as art in the their homes. Buster Brown appeared frequently in the pages of the magazine, both in full page images and in little vignettes accompanying ads, and perhaps, most famously, in the pictorial series Buster Brown and his Bubble. This rare poster is previously unreferenced.
