A New York institution founded in 1927, the Russian Tea Room served for years as a meeting place for high society and the culutral elite. Perhaps too elite to warrant advertising, few posters for the establishment exist. An undated menu in the New York Public Library, with this lively image on its cover, attributes the design to Richard Giglis. This poster bears the Tea Room's oft repeated and beloved slogan, "slightly to the left of Carnegie Hall . . ."
