RICHARD HAMILTON
$he (1958).

Color collotype and screenprint on white wove paper, 1982. 388x275 mm; 15x11 (sheet), full margins. Signed and numbered 67/100 in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression with strong colors.

Hamilton (1922-2011), who was among the progenitors of Pop Art, revisited his iconic oil painting, $he, 1958-61, which is now at the Tate, London, for this print. He wrote of the subject, "Sex is everywhere, symbolised in the glamour of mass-produced luxury--the interplay of fleshy plastic and smooth, fleshier metal. This relationship of woman and appliance is a fundamental theme of our culture; as obsessive and archetypal as the Western movie gun duel."
