RICHARD HUNT (1935 - )
Bentley Library Maquette.

Peregrine Section, 203x177x127 mm; 8x7x5 inches (not including base) * Historical Circle, 51x78x78 mm; 2x7x7 inches (not including base). Both cast bronze, on wooden bases, circa 1975.

Provenance: commmissioned by Hobart Taylor, Jr. from the artist; thence by descent to Hobart Taylor, III, Irvine, CA.

These two bronzes were maquettes for the large bronze outdoors sculpture by Richard Hunt commissioned for the Bentley Historical Library grounds at the University of Michigan. Hobart Taylor, Jr., a University of Michigan alum, wished to create a memorial to his father, Hobart Taylor, Sr., who was a leader in the Civil Rights movement in Texas, with this commissioned gift. The two pieces are installed separately, across from each other, in the library courtyard.
