Eclipse is an excellent, early example of the atmospheric and abstracted landscapes of Richard Mayhew. Eclipse is a scarce painting from the period in the mid-1960s in which he began to add the brighter, saturated colors that he is known for today. Just the year before, Mayhew had joined the artists group Spiral in New York, and exhibited in their inaugural exhibiton in the summer of 1964.
