Born on 1946 in Badin, NC, Richard Watson studied painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. A student during the Civil Rights movement, Watson's sketches and paintings were heavily influenced by the social changes that were taking place around him. Soon he began working on community art projects, collaborating with Freedom Theater and the Church of the Advocate. Watson's work has been exhibited at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC, The Walt Whitman Cultural Center, New Jersey, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, PA. Today, Richard Watson is currently the Exhibitions Manager at the African American Museum in Philadelphia.
