RICHARD WILBUR (1921-2017)

Frank O'Hara's copy of Ceremony and Other Poems.

New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1950.

Stated first edition of Pulitzer Prize winning poet Wilbur's second book, octavo; this is poet Frank O'Hara's copy with "Frank O'Hara / Ann Arbor 1951" in black ink on the front free flyleaf; bound in publisher's corn yellow cloth; printed dust-jacket preserved, unclipped (minor edgewear soiling to jacket; occasional minor stains; corners lightly bumped); 8 x 5 1/8 in.

After graduating from Harvard University in 1950, O'Hara went on to achieve his master's degree in English from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor beginning in 1951. Frank O'Hara and Richard Wilbur's poetry are often examined in contrast with one another, as Wilbur is known for his adherence to traditional forms while O'Hara lead the experimental avant-garde New York School of poetry.
