Patinaed dental stone, circa 1960. 152 mm; 6-inches high on a 4 inch high wooden base.
Provenance: John and Marjorie Rappaport; Susan Leftstad, their daughter: Mosadi's African-American Art, Denver; private New York collection. According to letters from the family, this head was commissioned by Marjorie Rappaport. The Rappaports were friends and patrons of Barthé during his Jamaica period (1949 -1969), and they commissioned several works by him.
