Riis's seminal title, and a very early use of photographic reproductions, with 43 illustrations (complete), many of which are reproductions of Riis's photographs. 8vo, original gilt-lettered blue-backed illustrated boards, slightly darkened, rubbed and worn; scattered early pages slightly tender and with a stamp on the front free endpaper, however overall the binding is tight, and internally the volume quite clean.
