ROBERT ADAMS (1937- )
Pawnee National Grassland, Colorado. Silver print, the image measuring 9x11 1/8 inches (22.9x28.3 cm.), the sheet 11x14 inches (27.9x35.6 cm), with Adams' signature, title, and negative and print dates in pencil, and his credit stamp on verso. 1984; printed before 1992

"Though I have difficulty in discussing my own work, I have no trot bye remembering the spring morning when this particular photographer was taken. There were birds—lark buntings—in the tree, and the sunlight made the prairie new. Photography was the most natural thing in the world.

The tree seems to me now, as it did then, an example of survival. Its beauty had lasted both by a grace we don't understand, and because someone —in this case a homesteader— had cared sufficiently to help it." Robert Adams
