PARIS. Circa 1935.

Falcucci's career spanned multiple decades and several thematic milieus. He began designing car racing posters for the Monaco Grand Prix in 1930, and went on to design travel posters and images for Air France. His later work is punctuated by bright, near-fluorescent colors. This image is one in a series of posters published in the mid 1930s by Les Grands Réseaux de Chemins de Fer Français. "Falcucci chooses to evoke the mythical Paris, a fascinating city of light . . . beyond the Arc d'Triomphe . . [it] is a perfect demonstration of the use of the airbrush" (Reclame p. 130). Other posters in the series promoting travel by train to Paris were designed by A.M. Cassandre, Julien Lacaze and Roger de Valerio. Voyage p. 141, Reclame 102.
