Heinecken was initially a trained printmaker. He used photography to explore the formal content, as well as social aspects, of the popular print medium. In this first artist's book, he examined hundreds of fashion and popular magazines on the light-table, revealing the composite image formed from opposite or back-to-back pages. He then used these pages as negatives to directly expose a photo-lithographic plate.
