This screenprint is based on the earlier Die Deutsche Liebe (The German Love) screenprint rendered in the colors of the German flag and commissioned by Graphik USA in 1968. In 1996, twelve of Robert Indiana's Love screenprints were printed as the Book of Love portfolio of which the present screenprint was part of.
